Hi Nigel sorry I didn't get back to you earlier - busy end of term with Year 6 Confirmation thrown in! Life is very interesting and extremely busy as a first year teacher who is also the REC but I love it, especially the REC part of the job. Having a background in theology and biblical studies makes a huge difference in this job as you can answer student and teacher questions and base your decisions on what you know about these areas. Last year in tandem with my Dip Ed, I did the first stage of the Accreditation to teach RE in Catholic schools which was a year long part time course. That together with my previous studies enabled me to become Accredited to teach RE and did help me in teaching RE as the course looked at ways to teach RE, History of RE etc. I would highly recommend doing such a course. Next year I will start a Masters in RE, probably from Notre Dame, Freemantle. If would recommend however, that you do your first year teaching without a position of responsibility. Teach first this way is hard
