You raise some interesting points in your blog April. It certainly is easier now to publish information of the web, especially with web 2.0 tools like wikis, blogs etc. However the power of Web 2.0 tools means that someone can go in straight away and correct the information, or state publicly that an error needs to be addressed. Think how long it would take to get some published works corrected and reprinted?? I found this article interesting http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4530930.stm It's from the BBC in 2005 regarding the correctness of information found in Wikipedia. Interestingly the reviewers found 162 factual errors, omissions or misleading statements in Wikipedia and 123 in the Encyclopaedia Britannica. I don't think that it is such a big difference really... Which one would you trust more? I think that as more people start to use and cite information from the web the more accountable it HAS to be. And I think giving people the power to edit content will only increase this accountability.
